Celebrating Juneteenth Across the Diocese
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. As we remember this important milestone in our nation’s history, the Diocese of the Susquehanna’s Beloved Community Commission invites all members of our diocesan family to support local Juneteenth celebrations and community events as an act of solidarity and witness to God’s love for our neighbors. Below is a list of gatherings taking place across the diocese where communities will come together to celebrate freedom, honor Black history and culture, and join one of them to celebrate Freedom Day!
