Bishops in Residence: Bishop Nichols Visits the Northwest Region

This year, each bishop will spend three days in residence in each of the four regions of the diocese: the northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest. The Canon Missioner for that region will coordinate these visits, planning time for the bishop to worship and fellowship with the members of this region. Activities may include a gathering of lay leaders, meetings with clergy, visits to places of interest in the region, and opportunities for recreation.

The first of these visits happens February 4-6 when Bishop Kevin Nichols will visit the Northwest Region. The schedule includes both planned gatherings with various communities and ministries as well as public events (noted below):

Wednesday, February 4

5 p.m. (Public Event) — Conversation and Dinner at St. Luke’s, Altoona
806 13th Street, Altoona, PA 16602
An hour of conversation with Bishop Nichols, followed by a potluck dinner at St. Luke’s. All are welcome! Contact: Ms. Marilyn Pyeatt.

 

Thursday, February 5

10 a.m. — Time with the people of St. James, Bedford, who are looking forward to showing Bishop Nichols their thrift shop, which has been in existence for 50 years!

1 p.m. — A quick tour of Holy Trinity, Hollidaysburg to learn about their outreach, including a massive plastic recycling project.

5 p.m. (Public Event) — Community Café at St. Andrew’s, State College

6:15 p.m. — Holy Eucharist with Penn State Episcopal on campus, followed by dinner and fellowship with students.

 

Friday, February 6

9 a.m. (Public Event) — Conversation about Moshannon Accompaniment Services at St. John’s, Bellefonte

St. John’s, Bellefonte will host a conversation about the Moshannon Accompaniment Services and the volunteer ministry of visiting and supporting those who are detained at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Clearfield, PA. Moshannon is the largest immigration detention facility in the Northeast, where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) holds close to 1,900 detainees while they await court hearings, asylum decisions, or deportation.
